Salters' Hall Archive
The Salter’s Company motto is “SAL SAPIT OMNIA” – “SALT SAVOURS ALL” it refers to good conversation and sparkling wit.
This HLF funded project was a unique opportunity to work with one of the Great 12 Livery Companies to help them to open their fantastic archive to the public for the first time.
Did you know that the oldest document in their archive dates from 1216?
The gallery looks at the importance of salt from ancient times to the current day, and tells the story of The Salters’ Company. Artefacts on display have been drawn from The Salters’ Archive, the Museum of London and Lion Salt Works collections.
We all enjoyed the salty voyage of discovery which took us from the depths of the sea to outer space, from good luck omens to chemical processes.
