Pierhead re-opened to the public in 2010. This iconic Grade 1 listed building on Cardiff Bay next door to the Senedd is now a popular destination for both locals and visitors to the area.
The new displays tell the story of the building and local area, as well as hosting exhibitions by different community groups.
Democracy, Welsh language, identity and heritage are themes which weave through the building: the displays invite participation from visitors mirroring the debates in the Senedd next door. The Main Hall has been turned into an interactive polling station and immersive multi-screen film show. Other displays include ‘Welsh Heroes’ co-curated with community groups, oral history displays and a Welsh Timeline of commissioned artefacts.
