Commissioned by Thanet District Council, Tourism team, as part of its destination management plan. The Isle of Thanet is a small island in east Kent, UK and had seen a decline in its reputation as a visitor destination, and those who did visit stayed only a very short time.
HKD created an island wide scavenger hunt encouraging visitors to explore the sites in the area.
The project spanned three towns and two villages. Locations were chosen during a series of public consultation meetings. This process raised awareness of some of the lesser-known sites in the area and encouraged shops, cafes and pubs to become more actively involved in supporting Thanet as a visitor destination.
Running for two years, the project attracted a great deal of local support. Meetings to select the sites were well attended and once launched people did report an increase in visitor numbers.
