The Holocaust Memorial Center is a 17,000 square foot exhibition in a new building designed by Neumann Smith Assoc. of Detroit. HKD worked with NSA to create the narrative progression through the building which reflects the story of the Jewish people.
The displays are fully integrated into the architecture. The visit starts opens in bright, day lit galleries displaying cultural traditions and artistic achievements before descending into the lower galleries showing the horrors of Europe in the 20th Century. The visitor then rises again to the Institute of the Righteous at the end of the exhibition, where they look at the opportunities and challenges facing us in the 21st Century.
