The Tropical Ravine underwent a £3.8million renovation to restore the building and preserve the unique plant collection housed within it. Located in the Belfast Botanic Gardens, it houses temperate and tropical plants from around the globe. Our interpretation used hands-on tactile exhibits to explore the science behind the plants and unlock the stories of the people who have collected and cared for them.
We worked closely with the Friends of Belfast Botanic Gardens, the community outreach officer and the client to test the designs and content. Due to the harsh environment within the greenhouse, the exhibits needed to be robustly designed and manufactured with external quality materials. The Ravine re-opened to the public in April 2018 with a sell-out engagement programme and rave reviews.
