HKD was delighted to work with Arthur Torrington and the Windrush Foundation on this important project. 1838 marked the emancipation of nearly one million Africans in the Caribbean.
Collections were bought together for the first time from the Royal Geographic Society, The National Maritime Museum, The National Portrait Gallery, National Archives, Anti-Slavery International and the Imperial War Museum. The project delivered a travelling exhibition for libraries and community centres, educational resources, website and public exhibition at the Royal Geographic Society, London.
